Comparison
Compare the Fluval P Series preset heaters
Fluval's P Series is a small family of fixed-preset, fully submersible aquarium heaters. The current US family comparison lists three separate products: P10, P25 and P50. They share the same basic control approach and a manufacturer-described polymer casing, but each has a different item number, rated aquarium volume, wattage and body size. Use the exact item and package label when comparing retailer offers.
Three distinct P Series configurations
| Model | Item / UPC | Power and US supply | Manufacturer aquarium rating | Listed size (L × W × H) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| P10 | A743 / 015561107433 | 10 W; 120 V / 60 Hz | Up to 3 US gal / 10 L | 5.3 × 0.78 × 0.59 in |
| P25 | A744 / 015561107440 | 25 W; 120 V / 60 Hz | Up to 6 US gal / 25 L | 5.9 × 1.1 × 0.68 in |
| P50 | A745 / 015561107457 | 50 W; 120 V / 60 Hz | Up to 15 US gal / 50 L | 6.1 × 1.57 × 0.78 in |
The aquarium ceilings are not interchangeable. A larger P model is not just a more powerful P10 package: its item and dimensions differ, and a rated maximum is not a guarantee for a particular room or water-volume measurement. The P50's 1.57-inch width is larger than the P25's 1.1 inches or P10's 0.78 inches, even though their lengths are fairly close. Check the usable mounting space and leave circulation around the appliance.
The P Series control is fixed
Fluval says all P heaters are preset for a 76–78°F / 24–26°C band and require no adjustment. A fixed band may be convenient when it is acceptable for the livestock's independently established temperature needs. It is a poor fit when the keeper needs an adjustable dial or a target outside that band. Fluval lists an LED running lamp, but not a digital water-temperature display; the light indicates that the heater is in use, not what the aquarium thermometer would read.
Do not treat the preset as a fish-care recommendation or a precise whole-tank result. The sources reviewed do not state a numerical accuracy tolerance. Fluval's FAQ warns that a substantial difference between the room and the preset may call for more capacity. Its US page prints the threshold as 12°F / 8°C, values that do not convert exactly. The older manual's English ambient-temperature sentence is also difficult to reconcile with the current FAQ. That makes the caution useful but not a precise performance cutoff. Consider the room, cover, water flow and target together, then monitor actual water temperature independently.
Shared construction and setup limits
Fluval describes the P Series as having a shatterproof polymer body, full submersibility, suction-cup mounting and freshwater/saltwater use. The polymer description distinguishes the line from a glass-tube design, but it is not a measured impact rating and does not mean that the unit cannot be damaged. The sources reviewed do not establish automatic dry-run shutoff or an inline external-filter arrangement. Keep the heater completely submerged and do not operate it outside water.
The instruction manual sets a maximum operating depth of 0.9 meters and says to respect the marked MAX water line. It recommends positioning the unit near water movement, allowing about ten minutes for it to acclimatize in the aquarium before powering it, and using a drip loop. Unplug it during maintenance and give it at least 30 minutes to cool before removal. Check the manual that comes with the exact model; these instructions are not a substitute for safe electrical practice.
Choose by volume, fixed setting and physical fit
- P10 (A743) is the 10 W option rated up to 3 gallons, with the smallest listed body.
- P25 (A744) is rated up to 6 gallons and has a 5.9-inch length and 1.1-inch width.
- P50 (A745) is rated up to 15 gallons but has the broadest listed body and the same fixed temperature band.
For any of these models, first establish the livestock's appropriate temperature with reliable husbandry guidance. Then check actual working volume, room conditions, a clear in-tank mounting location, the exact electrical version and package, and independent thermometer readings after installation. A finder match only checks published facts; it cannot promise heat-up performance or certify that a user-edited choice is safe.
