Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Which HMU option is documented as 50 W?
The official Finnex Shop lists a 50 W HMU choice with SKU HMU-50S and its own Shopify variant ID. Its official variant barcode field is blank, so the UPC is unverified.
Explore this need in the finder →Does Finnex publish a tank-size range for HMU 50 W?
Not in the primary Shop record or the reviewed comparison chart. The chart gives a 100–500 W family span but no capacity band. Do not turn 50 W into a gallon recommendation; this variant remains reference-only.
Explore this need in the finder →What control range can be attributed to HMU 50 W?
The Shop page describes digital adjustable control, but the chart lists HMU as 100–500 W and does not include the 50 W entry. I therefore do not assign the chart’s 68–92°F range to HMU-50S.

The official Finnex Shop currently identifies a 50 W selection with SKU HMU-50S and a separate variant record. That is enough to distinguish this heater option from the 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 W selections in the same grouped listing. It is not enough to establish a suitable aquarium size. Finnex's comparison chart describes HMU from 100 to 500 W and leaves this 50 W option out, so I do not extend that chart's control range or material details to this out-of-span configuration.
What the primary record supports
The current Shop page describes the listed HMU group as a titanium-tube heater with a remote temperature sensor, a digital controller/display that allows adjustments, a surrounding flame-retardant heater guard and a non-resumable fuse for an exposed heater. Those are manufacturer descriptions, not observed performance or test results. The product record assigns this exact choice the HMU-50S SKU and its own Shopify variant ID. The associated barcode field is empty. A product URL whose old handle contains “HMX” does not override the page title, current body copy or HMU SKU; it is recorded as a stale slug, not evidence that this is an HMX model.
The biggest gap is aquarium fit
The Shop record and comparison chart do not give a tank-volume recommendation for HMU-50S. Neither source provides a full voltage/frequency rating, exact heater length, water-type approval, immersion depth, orientation, clearance or a step-by-step installation manual. The manufacturer instructions index lists other heater manuals but no HMU manual. A 50 W label tells you the selected element's rated power; it does not tell you whether it can hold a desired temperature in a particular water volume, room or flow pattern. I therefore do not turn this option into a small-tank recommendation or infer a gallon number from other Finnex series.
Why this is not a finder recommendation
This page is an identification and evidence-limit assessment, not an endorsement. The source page's transient sold-out display says nothing reliable about lifecycle or other retailers, and I do not use its price. The shared gallery is not labeled HMU-50S and does not identify a wattage, so no generic family rendering is presented as an exact product photograph. This model remains out of the matcher and the BuyerShortlists purchase list: exact capacity, installation and electrical suitability cannot be checked. Confirm those points on the exact package and instructions before considering a purchase, then monitor actual aquarium water with a separate thermometer.
Evidence checked
This assessment is based on the official Finnex Shop HMU record, the Finnex titanium-heater comparison chart and the Finnex instructions index. No hands-on use or measurement is claimed.
