What aquarium range does Finnex assign to the HPC-200?
Finnex's table gives the 200 W HPC-200 a 60–80 US-gallon water-volume band. Its 60-gallon lower endpoint is material: a maximum-only matcher could otherwise present an 80-gallon-capacity model for a much smaller aquarium. This site keeps the exact review visible but excludes the model from finder results because it cannot enforce the lower bound.
Explore this need in the finder →What control range is documented for the HPC-200?
The manual lists 68–92°F, and Finnex describes a digital display and a cord-mounted button for changing the setting. The source supplies no quantitative tolerance for this model, so the range describes available heater settings only; check actual aquarium water with a separate thermometer.
Explore this need in the finder →How does the HPC-200 differ from the next HPC size at 80 gallons?
Finnex's rows place the HPC-200 at 60–80 gallons and the HPC-300 at 80–100 gallons, so 80 is the shared inclusive boundary in those written bands. This does not mean the two heaters have the same power or physical size: the 200 W model is listed at 12 inches and 1.35 A at 115 V, while the 300 W model has a separate 13.75-inch, 2.70 A row. Neither minimum can be filtered by the current matcher.
Explore this need in the finder →The Finnex HPC-200 is the 200 W option in the glass HPC family. The official Shop variant record associates the code HPC-200 with UPC 850006562251, and the model table supplies a capacity range and physical/electrical reference values specific to that wattage. This is a source-based assessment, not an owner report or an independently measured test. The primary sources leave several practical details—especially full mounting instructions—unclear, so the review is intentionally more cautious than a simple wattage comparison.
The middle wattage has a large lower boundary
Finnex's table lists the HPC-200 at 200 W, 1.35 A when referenced to 115 V, 60–80 gallons, a 68–92°F control range and 12 inches of heater length. The 60-gallon floor is a critical condition: this is not a general “up to 80 gallons” device without a stated lower end. The current finder has only an upper-capacity rule, so it cannot stop the HPC-200 from appearing for an aquarium below 60 gallons. This model is therefore retained as a documented reference but not allowed into the match or buying shortlist.
The other two HPC rows show how the model boundary differs from adjacent variants. The 100 W version is listed at 20–30 gallons, leaving a substantial interval before the HPC-200's 60-gallon starting point. The HPC-300 is listed at 80–100 gallons, meeting the 200 W band's top value at 80. That shared value is an overlap in the stated bands, not proof that the models have identical output, control behavior or physical fit. The 200 W entry has its own 12-inch length and 1.35 A at 115 V; do not copy the longer HPC-300 figures onto it.
What Finnex says about control and protection
The family description identifies 2 mm quartz glass, a high-temperature-resistant guard, a remote temperature sensor and an electronic controller. The display and adjustment button are placed on the cord, outside the aquarium. Finnex says the sensor will cut power if it is exposed to air after the water falls too low, and that settings are saved in memory. These details can inform the checklist for a guarded glass heater, but the family page gives no quantitative accuracy tolerance, no measured response data and no model-specific statement about what the memory function restores after every power-loss situation.
Finnex's maintenance language is unusually direct: clean the out-of-water sensor and confirm it functions at least every 30 days, and do not use the heater if the sensor is inoperative. A protective cut-off is not permission to operate the heating tube dry. The family page also says that the HPC must operate in water with TDS above 150 ppm. That strict water-chemistry condition should be checked for the actual aquarium; it is not a generic freshwater or saltwater approval statement.
Do not fill in the missing installation details
The instructions index lists an HPC heater-series manual, but the downloaded two-page document contains only a table of model specifications. It does not state the complete submersion depth, vertical or horizontal position, clearance, mounting details, cord routing or inline-filter permission. The family page puts the remote sensor in the aquarium and calls the heater a glass aquarium heater, but that is not enough to establish all requirements for a “fully submersible in-tank” finder answer. Freshwater/saltwater use is also not explicitly named in the inspected HPC sources.
The current reference of 1.35 A is explicitly tied to 115 V. It should not be rewritten as a complete input rating or used to guess frequency, outlet compatibility or certification. If the electrical label or installation route is a deciding condition, the exact package documentation must answer it. Likewise, a guard is not the same thing as a manufacturer claim that the glass body is shatterproof.
How to use this reference
The HPC-200 is useful to identify an exact maker row—200 W, 60–80 gallons, 12 inches, and the listed current/control references—when comparing the HPC family on paper. It is not an endorsed choice for every aquarium that falls below 80 gallons. Because the finder cannot express its 60-gallon minimum, the product stays reference-only even when someone enters an 80-gallon volume. That preserves the meaning of Finnex's published lower boundary instead of quietly dropping it.
Finnex's Shop currently assigns the same generic photograph to all three wattages. The visible heater marking does not distinguish the 200 W unit, so this review does not use the shared family image as exact HPC-200 evidence. Before considering a package, check that the code is HPC-200 and UPC is 850006562251, verify the printed 60–80 gallon band and the 68–92°F setting range, confirm the actual electrical label and full installation directions, and check that the aquarium water meets Finnex's above-150-ppm TDS condition. A separate thermometer is still needed to verify water temperature; the digital display and manufacturer control claims are not independent performance measurements.
