What capacity does Finnex list for the THH-800S?
Finnex's THH table lists the 800 W THH-800S for 140–265 US gallons, with a 17.32-inch tube. The 265-gallon endpoint is only an upper screen, while the current finder cannot enforce the 140-gallon floor; for that reason this tube is reference-only at every volume, not a match up to 265 gallons.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the THH-800S be run directly from a wall outlet?
No. Finnex warns that a THH tube must be connected to an external temperature-control unit and must not be plugged directly into a wall outlet. Its out-of-water sensor only cuts element power when the tube is exposed; the exact compatible controller and its temperature range are not established for this model.
Explore this need in the finder →What freshwater and saltwater condition does Finnex specify for THH?
Finnex says the family is intended for fresh and marine aquariums, but specifically says the water must be above 150 ppm TDS. The questionnaire's water-type choice does not ask about TDS, and the reviewed documents do not establish the complete mounting or immersion route for the THH-800S. Check both rather than treating water type alone as proof of compatibility.

The THH-800S is the 800 W configuration in Finnex's titanium heating-tube family with an out-of-water sensor. This is a document-based review, not a report of use or measurement. Finnex's own overview states that THH units require a separate temperature controller and must not be plugged directly into a wall outlet. The heater's sensor can cut power when the tube is exposed to air, but it does not measure and regulate the chosen aquarium setpoint on its own.
Finnex's model table lists the THH-800S at 800 W and 9.0 A at 115 V for 140–265 US gallons. It gives the tube length as 17.32 inches, a six-inch power-cord entry and a 70-inch cord from controller to heater. Those measurements differ materially from the 10.63-inch THH-300S and 14.57-inch THH-500S, so fit in the aquarium and routing of leads are not interchangeable across the three options. The table's amperage reference is specific to 115 V; it does not establish the full supply rating or frequency of a particular item.
A large published range is not a guarantee of capacity in every room
The THH-800S's 265-gallon ceiling is the highest of these three THH configurations, but its lower endpoint of 140 gallons matters just as much. The site's present volume rule understands a maximum and cannot enforce a model's minimum. As a result, the THH-800S is excluded from matches rather than shown for aquariums below the stated 140-gallon floor. This avoids a misleading “fits up to 265 gallons” message being read as “fits any tank up to 265 gallons.”
Even within the listed range, nominal aquarium volume is only one screening detail. Room-to-water temperature difference, whether the tank is covered, circulation and the desired rise can alter heater needs. The manufacturer chart does not give an independent performance curve or guarantee a particular recovery time. No such thermal test has been performed for this review. A second heater or backup controller should not be presumed to be included simply because the selected tube is the 800 W option.
Pay attention to water and the separate controller
Finnex describes THH for fresh and marine aquariums, but adds a non-negotiable condition: it says the series must operate in water above 150 ppm TDS. That numerical prerequisite can conflict with purified or reverse-osmosis source water even where “freshwater” is the right broad water-type label. The current finder does not ask about TDS, so selecting a water type cannot clear this constraint.
A controller must be sourced and verified separately. The THH overview says not to run the tube without a temperature-control unit, while the manufacturer page reviewed does not identify a particular THH-800S system bundle or publish the separate controller's exact setpoint limits as part of this configuration. Do not infer that a controller for a same-wattage TH series tube is compatible, nor that a high-output controller is automatically appropriate. Confirm the controller's supported load, sensor arrangement, setting range, electrical supply, and the pieces actually included in the offer before assembling a system.
Sensor protection and the installation gaps
The THH sensor is located at the junction of the heater element and cord. Finnex instructs users to secure that area higher than the rest of the heater, clean and confirm operation every 30 days, and discontinue use if the sensor fails. When the waterline falls far enough to expose the heater, the power cutoff and alert are intended to respond. They do not establish that the heater can be run in air, that it will shut down safely under every failure, or that the tube may be mounted in any orientation. The current source set does not provide a THH-800S-specific immersion mark, minimum-clearance diagram or full setup manual. A general family page and product illustration are not substitutes for the instructions packed with the exact tube.
The manufacturer's wording calls the titanium heater “virtually unbreakable,” and it lists a protective high-temperature guard. Neither claim is restated here as the specific questionnaire requirement of a documented shatterproof heater body. The tube material, guard and sensor each answer different questions. The guard reduces direct contact with the element; it is not a separate thermostat, impact test, or proof that all surrounding glass/plastic components are unbreakable.
How it differs from related Finnex tubes
THH-800S is not the TH-800S or THD-700S. Those related Finnex codes identify separate constructions and power choices. The TH family uses different tube lengths and the THD family has its own wattage/capacity rows; neither can be used to fill the THH's controller, low-water or installation details. The TH series Deluxe Combo page pairs a controller with TH tubes, but it does not identify a THH-800S package. A grouped retailer page cross-lists the three exact THH codes but has no selectable options at the time reviewed, and the current official Shop heater collection did not list a THH tube. This does not establish stock, discontinuation or a complete retail SKU/UPC bridge.
Assessment
The THH-800S is a high-wattage tube with a source-stated 140–265 gallon band, 17.32-inch heating tube and an out-of-water safety system. The missing pieces are just as consequential: its 140-gallon floor is not enforceable in the matcher, TDS must exceed 150 ppm, an external temperature controller is required but not included in the evidence-backed configuration, and the full mounting procedure remains unverified. It is therefore a reference record, not an eligible recommendation or standalone operating heater. See the Finnex THH series page and obtain model-specific installation and controller documentation before deciding whether a complete, compatible THH-800S arrangement exists for a particular aquarium.
