A useful fit for

Consider the 100 W Jäger when a freshwater or marine aquarium is within the manufacturer's approximate 100–150 L / 26.4–39.6 US gal range and a 319 mm vertical glass heater can sit in brisk flow with the marked water level maintained.

The main tradeoff

The Type 3614 manual maximum is 39.6 US gallons; at 39 gallons it remains within the documented screen, while 40 is over it. The 319 mm body requires vertical clearance, is not documented as shatterproof, and the exact unit label must confirm the 120 V / 60 Hz supply.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the Jäger 100 W rating include a 39-gallon tank?

The Type 3614 manual gives a maximum of 39.6 US gallons, so 39 gallons is within the matching screen and 40 gallons is beyond it. Its lower approximate volume band and actual room conditions also matter; the capacity line is not a temperature-performance guarantee.

Can the Jäger 100 W be considered for marine water?

EHEIM describes the classic thermocontrol family for freshwater and marine use, and Type 3614 is the 100 W row in the manual. Check that the working volume fits its stated maximum and follow the vertical-placement, minimum-water-line and 0.5 m immersion limits in the exact manual.

Is 100 W Jäger adjustable to 93°F?

Yes. The classic thermocontrol manual specifies a 65–93°F selector range, so 93°F is the upper documented setting. The red light indicates heater operation, not a measured aquarium temperature; confirm the actual water reading separately and choose an appropriate livestock target using husbandry information.

This assessment is for the EHEIM Jäger 100 W submersible heater listed in the United States with UPC 720686361362. EHEIM's classic thermocontrol selector identifies the matching 100 W configuration as Type 3614; its manual assigns that type a stated maximum of 39.6 US gallons. The type number, not just the wattage printed in a retailer title, is important: EHEIM also sells a separate electronic thermocontrol e family. This is source-based product analysis, not an account of personal use or measured heating performance.

A useful upper bound, not a temperature guarantee

Type 3614 is rated at 100–150 litres, or 26.4–39.6 US gallons. A measured working volume of 39 gallons is below its stated maximum; 40 gallons is over it. The manual also gives a lower approximate volume, so the upper-bound finder should not be read as recommending a 100 W heater for every smaller aquarium. Tank cover, room temperature, circulation, desired temperature increase and water actually in the tank all affect the job. EHEIM describes its sizing table as standard guidance for closed aquariums at a 21°C / 70°F room temperature and a desired water temperature up to 26°C / 79°F. A colder room or a different goal can change the practical choice; do not convert wattage into a universal watts-per-gallon rule.

At the family level, 100 W is the first size above Jäger 75 W and below Jäger 125 W. It shares the 319 mm body length with the 125 W Type 3615, but the Type, wattage and capacity are not interchangeable. Compared with EHEIM thermocontrol e100, this is the analog classic model: its printed scale is 65–93°F and its manual Type is 3614, while the e100 is a different electronic product with a different type number and control range. Check the full name and type on the packaging.

Analog adjustment means you still need a thermometer

The Jäger lets the keeper set a temperature on a blue selector ring. EHEIM documents a 65–93°F scale, an accuracy specification of ±0.9°F and recalibration by adjusting the red pointer after checking the tank with an accurate thermometer. Its control lamp indicates heating operation; it is not a numeric display of the water temperature. A chosen setting of 78°F is within the scale, but that says nothing about whether 78°F is biologically appropriate for the livestock or whether the aquarium has reached it throughout. Confirm the target through suitable husbandry guidance and verify the water independently.

The product page describes a special glass jacket that distributes heat and acts as a heat shield. That is not a claim that the tube is shatterproof. A separate protective guard is not established by the sources reviewed here, so keep hardscape and equipment from striking the glass and do not assume a guard is in the box.

Plan vertical placement and safe handling

Type 3614 is an in-tank heater, not an inline device for an external-filter hose. EHEIM's manual calls for vertical mounting in briskly moving water, using the included double suction-cup holder. The body is 36 mm wide and 319 mm long, about 12.6 inches; allow for that length, the holder and room to lift the unit out. Keep the aquarium water above the minimum line on the heater and do not immerse it deeper than 0.5 m. The manual says to leave the heater in the aquarium unplugged for 20–30 minutes before first operation, to make a drip loop in the cable, and not to operate it with an additional timer or control system. Switch it off before reaching into the tank; before removal, unplug it and let it cool while still in water. It must never be switched on outside the aquarium.

Verify the North American package

The matching retail row gives the exact UPC, while EHEIM's family manual identifies Type 3614 in the North American 120 V / 60 Hz group. The physical voltage label remains the decisive offer check, because international Jäger packages can look very similar. The exact 100 W retailer image located for this review visibly says 220–240 V, so it is rejected and not presented as the US product photograph. No substitute image is used.

Consider this size only if its maximum capacity, long glass body and vertical placement suit the aquarium, and if the package is the 120 V / 60 Hz Type 3614. It has documented freshwater and marine use, adjustable analog control, an operating light and automatic dry-run shutoff. It is not documented for inline installation or as a shatterproof-body option. EHEIM lists a three-year warranty for the family, with stated exclusions including glass breakage, improper use and improper recalibration; read the warranty applying to the actual purchase. No current price, availability, test result or customer experience is asserted.
