Comparison

Compare EHEIM heater families and model sizes

EHEIM's thermocontrol e is a multi-size heater family, not one interchangeable product. This guide compares nine North American configurations individually researched from EHEIM's model pages and the family manual, with US UPC identity corroborated by a retailer category. The manufacturer selector also shows e400/Type 3640; the manual documents that Type only at 220–240 V, so it is not represented as a North American match. This family-specific comparison is not a census of every EHEIM heater or retailer offer.

The Type number, wattage, dimensions, maximum water volume and US UPC should agree with the exact package and manufacturer's instructions. The “e” designation distinguishes the electronic family from the separate older, non-e EHEIM thermocontrol line; similarly named family members can have different control and setup instructions. Read the separate reviews for e 25, e 50, e 75, e 100, e 125, e 150, e 200, e 250 and e 300.

Do not conflate those electronic variants with the separately reviewed North American classic Jäger family. The analog heaters use a 65–93°F adjustment scale, not the e line's 68–90°F electronic range; each exact Type number, US retailer UPC, capacity, dimension and manual remains distinct. The complete nine-size selector/manual family is compared below, with individual reviews for each North American model.

Use the maximum as a screen, not as a heat guarantee

The nine upper limits are distinct: e25 reaches 25 L / 6.6 US gal; e50 reaches 60 L / 15.8 gallons; e75 reaches 100 L / 26.4 gallons; e100 reaches 150 L / 39.6 gallons; e125 reaches 200 L / 53 gallons; e150 reaches 300 L / 79 gallons; e200 reaches 400 L / 106 gallons; e250 reaches 600 L / 159 gallons; and e300 reaches 1,000 L / 264 gallons. The integer finder changes at 6/7, 15/16, 26/27, 39/40, 53/54, 79/80, 106/107, 159/160 and 264/265 gallons. Check those exact boundaries in the heater sizing guide and use actual working water volume rather than the aquarium's outside dimensions.

Classic Jäger: separate analog Types and capacity steps

The classic thermocontrol/Jäger line has nine individually assessed North American UPC configurations; wattage alone does not make one a substitute for another. Their Type numbers and retailer UPCs map to separate manual rows:

Sources for the classic Type table: EHEIM's exact 100 W, 125 W, 150 W, 200 W, 250 W and 300 W model pages; the current Type 3611–3619 manual; and exact 100 W, 125 W, 150 W, 200 W, 250 W and 300 W US UPC identity pages. The alternate official manual and retailer's 264-gallon field conflict with the current Type 3619 row; matching uses 260 gallons conservatively. The six inspected package photos show 220–240 V and are not used as North American images.

Read the upper limits as model-specific filters. The six new Type 3614–3619 boundaries fall at 39.6/40, 53/54, 79/80, 106/107, 159/160 and, using the current Type 3619 manual's US-gallon figure, 260/261 gallons. The manual gives a 65–93°F analog control scale, an indicator lamp rather than a numeric display, glass that is not documented as shatterproof, vertical in-tank placement, strong water flow, a marked minimum water line and a 50 cm depth limit. It describes an approximate lower tank-size range too; the current matcher checks the upper capacity only, not whether a much smaller tank is a suitable application.

For the distinct size reviews see 25 W / Type 3611, 50 W / 3612, 75 W / 3613, 100 W / 3614, 125 W / 3615, 150 W / 3616, 200 W / 3617, 250 W / 3618 and 300 W / 3619. Type 3619 has a source conflict: a different archived official manual and a retailer field say 264 gallons, while the current manual linked from its model page gives 260 US gallons; the fact record conservatively uses 260 and the supplied offer manual should be checked.

EHEIM also gives approximate lower volume ranges for these variants. The current matcher only checks each documented maximum, so a positive result does not establish that a heater is appropriate for a much smaller tank, a cold room, a large target-temperature gap or a particular livestock setup. Consider cover, circulation and placement, consult the exact manual, and verify real water temperature with a separate thermometer. Do not treat wattage as a universal watt-per-gallon rule.

Shared adjustment and display limitations

EHEIM specifies an adjustable 20–32°C range, expressed by its North American manual as 68–90°F, with stated control accuracy of ±0.5°C (about ±1°F). A red/green lamp indicates heating activity and that the selected setting has been reached; it is not a numeric water-temperature display. The stated accuracy is a manufacturer control specification, not an independent measurement of the whole aquarium. Choose a biologically appropriate target from suitable husbandry guidance and use a separate thermometer to check water at the tank.

Fluval's E series differs in both feedback and upper range: its reviewed US configurations have a digital reading and color alerts, with a stated 68–93°F range. The broader Fluval display should not be mistaken for an independent thermometer either, but it can serve a different workflow than EHEIM's status lamp. Compare exact model ranges rather than assuming all adjustable thermostats are equivalent.

Marine water plus an adjustable 90°F setting

Fluval's separate 93°F-capable digital comparison models are the reviewed E100 and E300; a displayed reading/alert workflow differs from the Jäger's analog status lamp.

This combination requires all conditions to coexist in one documented operating plan. EHEIM lists the classic thermocontrol e, separate WLAN thermocontrol+ e and all nine individually assessed Jäger variants for fresh and marine water. OASE's seven HeatUp models also list marine use and an adjustable 66–90°F range. At 90°F, 58 marine-water adjustable models remain: the 25 AquaTop GH, GH PRO, HTG, EX and TH-C configurations, seven OASE units, nine classic e models, four thermocontrol+ e sizes, nine Jäger models and Fluval E50/E100/E200/E300. At 91°F, the HeatUps and both EHEIM electronic families drop out; the same 25 AquaTop configurations remain with nine Jäger and four Fluval E models, for 38. Compare conventional GH-50W and GH-300W and distinct GH PRO 50 W and 300 W at the marine-adjustable 90/91°F thresholds; the classic Jäger 150 W also remains inside its documented setting range at 91°F. The setting result does not recommend either target for a species.

Decision: At 90°F, 58 reviewed models meet the documented saltwater, adjustable-control and setpoint requirements: 25 AquaTop GH/GH PRO/HTG/EX/TH-C configurations, seven OASE HeatUps, nine classic EHEIM e sizes, four thermocontrol+ e WLAN Types, nine Jäger models and Fluval E50/E100/E200/E300. At 91°F, OASE and both electronic EHEIM families leave; the 25 AquaTop configurations remain with nine Jäger and four Fluval E models, leaving 38. See the exact 90°F marine-adjustable matches or check the same conditions at 91°F. Compare the HeatUp range and model limits with WLAN Type 3666, 3667, 3668 and 3669, distinct classic electronic e150, conventional GH-150W and GH PRO 200 W; confirm the exact setting suits the aquarium's inhabitants.

Vertical glass installation changes the fit decision

The EHEIM manual calls for a fully submerged vertical position inside the aquarium, an installation below the minimum water mark without exceeding the maximum immersion guidance, strong water circulation, a cable drip loop and unplugging before handling. Its English instructions require at least 30 minutes of in-water cooling before removal. A thermal circuit breaker may switch the unit off if the water level is too low, but the North American warning still says not to run the heater dry. The English text reviewed does not state a numeric maximum immersion depth, so use the supplied diagram rather than borrowing another model's limit.

EHEIM describes a special laboratory-glass coating as impact resistant. It remains a glass heater, not a documented shatterproof body; a separate guard is not established in the product information reviewed. Keep the unit clear of hardscape and verify the package if extra protection is essential. This is a material distinction: Fluval's P line is documented as shatterproof polymer, while the Fluval E guard surrounds a glass core and does not make it a shatterproof heater.

Verify North American electrical identity and the image edition

EHEIM's global product records identify EANs and item numbers for these e models, while the operating manual identifies the relevant North American types as 120–127 V / 60 Hz. A US retailer's category provides the model UPCs shown above. The current product images reviewed for the e50/e100/e150 show a 220–240 V label on the heater or package; they are therefore not used as exact North American product images. Match the Type/model and UPC, then verify the printed voltage and frequency on the actual package and unit before purchase. A correct-looking family name or a European product photograph is not an electrical-version check.

Sources: EHEIM's model pages for e25, e50, e75, e100, e125, e150, e200, e250 and e300, the 3631–3640 operating manual, and the US retailer's Eheim Heaters catalogue. The pictures show 220–240 V regional versions, while these assessments concern North American 120–127 V configurations; captions identify that distinction. Check the exact electrical label on any offered model. No test, current price, stock or customer-experience claim is made.

thermocontrol+ e: WLAN is a separate four-size family

The “+” name matters: thermocontrol+ e is the WLAN-controlled series, not a renamed classic thermocontrol e. Its reviewed North American Types 3666–3669 are separate from the Type 3631–3639 electronic e models above and the analog Jäger Types 3611–3619. The official family selector links four sizes; the complete manual groups these at 120–127 V / 60 Hz, while the separate 400 W Type 3670 row is 220–240 V only and is not included as a US model.

The shared WLAN workflow is the distinguishing capability, not a different capacity rule. EHEIM describes setup and control using a phone, tablet or computer/browser over 2.4 GHz WLAN; it also lists status monitoring and optional deviation e-mail where a recipient address is saved. Its product information says the unit does not cool aquarium water and notes that Wi-Fi reception works best when immersion is limited to the marked water level. The English manual calls for vertical, fully submerged in-tank placement, strong circulation and the marked level; do not run it dry. None of these glass bodies is documented here as shatterproof, and no separate guard is verified in the exact package.

All four Type rows share a 68–90°F setting interval and stated ±1°F control accuracy in the English manual. However, EHEIM's model pages show an 18–32°C interval, while the English manual's Fahrenheit table gives 68–90°F (20–32°C by direct conversion). The lower endpoint is inconsistent; the matcher and this guide use the explicit manual Fahrenheit range conservatively, but check the included manual and exact unit before relying on a 68°F floor. This control tolerance is a manufacturer specification, not an independent measurement of all water in the aquarium.

The Type number, retail UPC, package voltage and physical clearance must agree. The global manufacturer page numbers are 3666010, 3667010, 3668010 and 3669010; a US retailer category separately lists UPCs in the table above. The official product photos found for all four exact names visibly read 220–240 V, so they are rejected for the assessed 120–127 V / 60 Hz edition and no photo is shown as its North American image. Check the printed voltage and supplied instructions; do not infer US electrical compatibility from the shared product name.
