A useful fit for

Consider the 300 W Type 3639 for an aquarium in EHEIM's approximate 600–1,000 L range (up to 264 US gallons) when the adjustable 68–90°F setting, vertical mounting and nearly 19.5 inches of heater clearance are suitable.

The main tradeoff

The 264-gallon maximum is a manufacturer rating, not a tested heating guarantee. Its 496 mm body is substantially longer than the e 150/e 200 sizes, and impact-resistant glass is not a shatterproof-body claim; verify electrical identity, vertical water-line marks and circulation.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can Type 3639 be considered for a 250-gallon freshwater aquarium?

EHEIM lists the 300 W thermocontrol e 300 for approximately 600–1,000 L; the North American manual gives Type 3639 a maximum of 264 US gallons. At 250 gallons the published ceiling still covers the volume, while the e 200 and e 250 do not. The e 300 is the only currently reviewed configuration in this site's library whose manual-stated maximum reaches that volume. This does not promise a particular heat-up time or temperature in a specific room; check the exact electrical label and nearly 19.5-inch vertical body clearance.

Does the EHEIM e 300 allow a requested 91°F setting?

No. The family manual gives the adjustable range as 68–90°F, so a request for 91°F exceeds Type 3639's published upper control limit. The manufacturer page supports both fresh and marine water, but that does not extend the thermostat range. Establish any livestock temperature requirement independently and compare the exact setting with the manual rather than treating the heater rating as species advice.

What should I check before placing the e 300 in a large tank?

Type 3639 is about 496 mm / 19.5 inches high and 36 mm / 1.4 inches in diameter; its manual calls for vertical installation inside the aquarium, water at least above the MIN WATER LEVEL mark, and strong flow. The manual's English text does not specify a numeric maximum immersion depth, so do not invent one. It also calls for a drip loop, unplugging before maintenance and a 30-minute in-water cool-down before removal. Read the supplied instructions for the exact unit.

The EHEIM thermocontrol e 300 is the largest North-American-voltage member of the classic adjustable e family resolved here. Type 3639 is rated to 264 US gallons. This is not the separate Wi-Fi thermocontrol+ e 300 or the 400 W classic Type 3640, which the manual lists only at 220–240 V; no performance test is claimed.

A larger capacity also means a longer heater

The manual gives Type 3639 a 600–1,000 L range, or 159–264 US gallons; the maximum exceeds the e250's 159-gallon and e200's 106-gallon limits. At 496 mm (19.5 in) high and 36 mm wide, it is longer than both siblings.

At 250 gallons, it is the only configuration in this reviewed library whose published maximum reaches the requested volume. That does not show that 300 W will hold a particular tank at its target: the source contains no measured recovery curve. Consider room temperature, cover, circulation and actual water volume. The lower 159-gallon figure is context, not a hard minimum in the finder.

The target must fall inside 68–90°F

EHEIM specifies an adjustable 20–32°C thermostat, which its North American manual expresses as 68–90°F ±1°F. The company describes a red indicator during heating and green when the selected setting is reached. That lamp is not a digital reading of the water, and the stated control accuracy is not a test of temperature distribution throughout a large aquarium. Check tank water independently with an aquarium thermometer, especially after installation, and establish the biologically suitable setpoint from relevant care information rather than choosing it from a product listing.

90°F is inside the range, but 91°F is not; marine support does not raise that ceiling. Fluval E reaches a stated 93°F and has a display, while EHEIM uses a status light. Neither feature proves tank-wide temperature. Inline use, preset control and a shatterproof body are not documented for this model.

Nearly 20 inches of vertical clearance is a real constraint

The manual calls for vertical installation on the aquarium's inner wall, with the body below water at least to the MIN WATER LEVEL marking and with strong flow around it. It says to observe a maximum immersion depth but does not print a numeric limit in the English instructions I reviewed; the 496 mm body height should not be repurposed as that missing maximum. Leave unobstructed space for the heater and supplied double suction holder, and keep décor from striking the glass.

Keep a drip loop, protect plugs and sockets from moisture, unplug before maintenance, and cool the heater in water for at least 30 minutes before removal. Its thermal breaker does not permit dry operation. Inspect the glass, cable and plug; the manual says the cable is not user-replaceable.

The glass is impact resistant, but not labeled shatterproof

The manufacturer describes its special laboratory-glass coating as impact resistant and as a heat shield. It does not describe the e300's body as shatterproof, so that feature must not be inferred from impact resistance. The sources reviewed do not establish a separate protective cage in the e300 package either. If the buyer requires a documented shatterproof body, this model does not qualify in the finder. The double suction holder secures the heater to the aquarium; it is not evidence of an impact guard.

Distinguish Type 3639 from look-alike listings

The classic page gives EAN 4011708004913 and global item 3639010; a US retailer card gives UPC 720686006317. Type 3639 is in the manual's 120–127 V / 60 Hz group. Type 3640/e400 is a distinct 400 W row shown only at 220–240 V. Check Type, UPC, wattage and voltage together.

All exact official e300 images inspected for this review depict the 220–240 V version, even though the package graphics accurately show the 300 W size and 159–264 US-gallon span. The retailer thumbnail repeats that package, so there is no verified North American product image to use here. Do not mistake an exact European model photograph for an exact electrical edition, or substitute the Wi-Fi thermocontrol+ e300 because its name and wattage are similar.

Who should compare this size?

Compare it when a large fresh- or marine-water aquarium is within 264 gallons, a 68–90°F setting suits, and vertical clearance for 496 mm is available. Above 264 gallons it exceeds the rating; below it, the finder does not certify heating adequacy. Smaller e200/e250 limits are 106 and 159 gallons.

Bottom line: Type 3639 is a long, vertical glass heater rated to 264 gallons, with an indicator rather than numeric display. Confirm the US label and monitor tank water independently; no price, stock or test is claimed.
